Ghana@50: Republic of Ireland

On March 6, 1957, Ghana became the first country in Africa South of the Sahara to gain independence from colonial rule. The year 2007, marks 50 years of independence from the British. In line with this, I am directed by the executives of the Ghana Ireland Friendship Association (GIFA) to invite you to the celebration and commemorate Ghana’s 50th anniversary of independence on Saturday 10th March 2007 at 5 pm at the Garda Social Club, Sexton Street, Limerick. . The key objectives of GIFA are:

To promote educational and cultural cooperation between Ghana and Ireland.

To promote racial tolerance

Integrate Ghanaians into Irish society

. It may interest you to know that membership of the association is open to all Ghanaians, Irish Nationals, and other nationals, who agree with the aims and objectives of the association.

To celebrate and commemorate Ghana’s first half-century of freedom, we have invited about 100 to 150 people. Among the dignitaries we have invited are local politician Tim O’ Malley TD, Minister of State Department of Health & Children, Willie O’Dea TD and Minister for Defence, Councillor Joe Leddin, the Mayor of Limerick, Most Rev. Donal Murray, the Bishop Diocese of Limerick, HE Adolphus Arthur, the Deputy Ghana High Commissioner for London/Ireland and the Hononary Consul-General of the Republic of Ghana in Dublin. The National and local press will be invited as well. .
