Malaysian Delegation calls on Minister

Accra, Feb. 13, GNA – Mr Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, on Tuesday reiterated government’s commitment to provide affordable housing for workers. He said the housing sector has been earmarked as a priority area by President John Agyekum Kufuor to help resolve the housing needs of workers as well as efforts at meeting the Millennium Development Goals. “It is an attempt to cater adequately for the workers, something the private developers have not been successful at,” Mr Owusu-Agyemang said.

The Minister said this when he welcomed an 11-member Malaysian delegation led by Dato’ Seri S. Samy Vellu, Minister of Works, which is on a three-day visit.

The delegation comprising representatives from Malaysian construction firms and banks is in the country to hold bilateral talks with their Ghanaian counterparts and explore ways of mutual cooperation especially in the areas of water, housing, energy and transportation. Dato Vellu recounted his country’s cordial relationship with Ghana and expressed optimism at improving it. The delegation will be in the country for three days.
