Accra, Feb. 9 GNA – Johnson & Johnson International, a Global Health Care Products manufacturer, on Friday presented a cheque of 50,000 dollars towards the Valley View University (VVU) Nursing College at Oyibi, near Accra.
The money, which was made possible through the collaborative effort of International Aid, a non-profit relief and development agency, is to be used to purchase equipment for the centre as well as the training of students.
Mr. Conrad Person, Director for International Programmes and Corporate Contributions, Johnson & Johnson International, who made the presentation, said the primary objective of the company was to provide a scientifically sound, quality products and services to help cure diseases and improve the quality of life of the people. He said nurses over the years had supported the work of the company and it was about time the organization gave something back to the society for their training.
Ms Cindy Hiskes, Director in-charge of Field Administration, International Aid, said Ghana was the gateway to Africa and they would want to be part of the success story.
She said equipping the centre was an integral part of what was required to give the students the necessary training and the building of local capacity in nursing.
Dr Seth A. Laryea, President of the University, commended the company for their kind gesture and assured them that the money would be put to good use.
“We are going to make sure we use the money for the equipment that you want us to use the funds for,” he said. 9 Feb. 07
