Calls for replacement of a bridge over River Abu

Tepa (Ash), Feb. 7, GNA – The National Coordinator of National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Mr. Isaac Amoh has described the bridge over River Abu on Tepa-Mankraso road as very narrow and a threat to motorists and called for its immediate replacement Mr. Amoh made the call at a meeting with the senior staff of the Ahafo-Ano Distinct Assembly during a days’ working visit to the District last Thursday, February 1.

He explained that the road is one for the busiest roads in Ashanti Region linking Asumafo, Asutifi, Ahafo-Ano North and south districts and considerng the number of vehicles on the road, the bridge must be expanded before any disaster happens.

Mr. Amoh said 80 per cent of all disasters happening in the country are due to human error and called the public to join hands with the Organization to take measures to avoid preventable disasters like fire-outbreak and lorry accidents

He said eight villages in the District experienced fire-outbreak last year due to human activities and cautioned the people to avoid any mistake that may cause fire-outbreak, especially during this harmmatan period.

He inspected a trench just opposite the District Assembly building on the Tepa-Goaso road and charged the District Authorities to mobilize resources to erect a barricade to prevent any accident. The District Coordinating Director, Mr. Abubakari Yakubu Alhassan said, lack of transportation is one of the major obstacles affecting the work of the NADMO Secretariat in the district and appealed for a vehicle.

Mr. Osei Amponsah, the Ashanti Regional NADMO Co-coordinator, accompanied the Coordinator.
