Three Arrested For Cocaine Trafficking

Three people, including a woman, have been arrested at the Kotoka International Airport for attempting to smuggle narcotic drugs out of the country.

Margaret Seck, 28, based in the United Kingdom, Stephen Landry, 28, Ivorian based in France, and Stephen Boakye Afrane, 60, were arrested at 9 p.m. by officials of the Narcotics Control Board during departure formalities.

Mr Mark Ewuntomah, acting Deputy Executive Director of the NCB, told the Times on Friday that Seck and Landry were arrested on January 24 during a security check.

Mr. Ewuntomah said the security officials became suspicious of their behaviour.

They were taken to 37 Military Hospital for Xray, which revealed that they were carrying foreign materials in their body.

Landry subsequently allegedly expelled 77 thumb sized wrapped substances suspected to be cocaine, and Seck allegedly removed 13 wrappers of the substance from her private part.

Afrane, was arrested on January 15 and allegedly expelled 50 pellets.

He was said to have told the interrogators that he bought the drugs for 8,000 dollars to be taken to London for sale.

The suspects have been placed in police custody while the substance has been sent to the Ghana Standards Board for examination.
