Police to probe allege extortion of money by Kasoa police

Awutu Bawjiase, C/R, Jan 26, GNA – The Central Regional Police Command is to investigate a report that police at Kasoa are allocating land to some traders at the old market.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Roy Awuni, Deputy Central Regional Police Commander, said this at the Central Regional People’s Assembly at Awutu Bawjiase on Thursday.

A member of the public had told the gathering that police at Kasoa are allocating plots at the old market.

Mr Awuni assured the public that any police personnel found to have indulged in the act would be dealt with by the police administration. He said allegations of brutalities against traders by police at Kasoa would also be investigated.

Last year the old Kasoa market was demolished to give way for the construction of Accra/Kasoa/Cape Coast road.

A new market has been built for the people but some traders have refused to move to the new market.

Addressing the Assembly Nana Ato Arthur, the Central Regional Minister, urged people in the region not to connect tribalism with the National Youth Employment Programme.

“The programme is meant for every Ghanaian irrespective of his or her political or religious affiliation.”

Most of the questions asked by the public at the assembly centered on education, health, roads, economy, and poverty reduction. A Deputy Minister for Health and MP for Effutu, Mr. Samuel Owusu-Adjei, said plans were advanced to upgrade the Bawjiase Health Center into a polyclinic to stop the people from travelling to Winneba to seek medical care.

Mr Oppey Abbey, MP for Awutu-Senya, said the government has approved four roads in Kasoa for tarring and that work would begin soon. He said 42 towns and villages in the constituency would be connected to the national grid this year under the Self-Help Electrification Project Four programme.

Nai Krabi Clottey III, Sub-chief of Awutu Beraku who chaired the function, called for cooperation and unity between the government and the minority to promote peace.

He appealed to the government to tar the road linking Awutu-Beraku and Awutu Obrachire.
