Police say they will not spare parents who abuse children’s rights

Samsam Odumase (G/R), Jan. 22, GNA – Assistant Superintendent of Police Agnes Ceasar, has said that the Ghana Police Service will not spare parents and guardians who abuse the rights of children. She said the police would let the law take its course against those who connive with anybody to settle child abuse cases such as rape, defilement and other illegal acts affecting children.

ASP Ceasar said this at the start of a programme for community sensitization on child rights and responsibilities held at Samsam Odumase in the Ga West District.

World of Hope International (WOHI), a United States based non-governmental organization, is initiating the programme. She said such cases should be reported to the police and not to be concealed, adding that that was the only way to protect the democratic rights of children.

Madam Monica Westin, President and Founder of the NGO, said WOHI is dedicated to the young people of the world and aimed at promoting education, health and peace.

WOHI, she said, believed that education opportunity and support “is one important way to begin to combat HIV/AIDS at the most basic level and for that reason a branch of the NGO is based at Samsam Odumase with the hope to build a viable a program with ties at all levels of the community.”
