Goldsmith on 10 million cedis bail for threat of death

Assin Foso, Jan. 21, GNA – A 26-year-old goldsmith, Kwabena Mensah, was on Friday granted 10 million cedis bail by the Assin North District magistrate court for causing unlawful harm and threat of death. Mensah, who was also charged with causing unlawful damage and escaping form lawful custody, pleaded not guilty and would reappear on February 21.

Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police Akwasi Asafo Adjei told the court that on October 20 last year, Mensah allegedly injured one Mr Kofi Ayittey with a cutlass for allegedly flirting with his wife. He said the next day Mensah launched the attack again, threatening to kill Mr Ayittey with a cutlass but onlookers collected the cutlass from him and reported the incident to the police.

Mensah was arrested and placed in police custody but he caused damage to the cell wall and escaped. He was later re-arrested.
