Gomoa chiefs appeal for two separate districts

Apam (C/R), Jan. 17, GNA- The two Traditional Councils in the Gomoa district of the Central Region, have added their voice to the call on the government to split the district into two to facilitate administrative work towards development.

The call was made at a special meeting jointly chaired by the two Presidents of the Traditional Councils, Nana Obirifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II, Paramount Chief of Gomoa Akyempim and Okatakyi Nyanful Krampa X, Paramount Chief of Gomoa Ajumako.

It was attended by Chiefs and opinion leaders of the Traditional Councils, Mr. Joe Hackman, Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa West, Mr. Richard Sam Quarm MP for Gomoa East, the District Chief Executive (DCE), for Gomoa, Madam Joyce Aidoo and Mr. Oscar Aban, Presiding Member for the District Assembly.

Also present at the meeting were head of departments in the district and a large crowd of people from the area, including assembly members.

The meeting suggested that the two districts be named as Gomoa West and Gomoa East and that the capital of Gomoa West should be at Apam but said that proposed Capital town of Gomoa East would announced later. The DCE expressed her gratitude to the traditional rulers and the people for meeting to think about the development of the area. She said the authorities were doing their best to ensure develop for every part of the country, and urged Ghanaians to give the government the needed support to enable it complete the good work it has started. Madam Aidoo reminded the people that the government has initiated the Capitation Grant, the school feeding programme and the National Insurance Scheme to improve the lot of the people.
