8 Million Ghanaians Live In Poverty

Over eight million out of Ghana’s total population of 20 million are said to be poor and cannot afford the basic needs of life in spite of the numerous efforts of government to improve the income level of people.

The Executive Director of Poverty Concern Ghana, Mr. Abdul Razak Abdulai made the observation in Accra today when his organization presented 130 computers worth 120,000 US dollars to some selected schools and institutions in the Northern region through the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports.

Mr. Abdulai said 9 out of 10 people in the Upper East and Upper West regions are poor and can barely afford a living whilst 7 out of 10 people live in poverty in the Northern region. He said poverty concern is coming out with a 5-year development plan to assist in the alleviation of poverty in the country.
