125 blood donors test positive

The Ghanaian Times in its top story reports that 125 voluntary blood donors from Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region, turned out to be HIV/AIDS positive.

The Times says tests conducted on the blood they donated between January and June, this year, showed that they were infected with HIV/AIDS.

The paper says ‘credible’ sources at the Ministry of Health, disclosed this yesterday. According to the sources, out of the number, 96 are male and 29 female.

The paper says the Nkoranza District, with 22 of the total, recorded the highest number of the HIV/AIDS cases, and followed by the Tano District with 19 cases. They were followed by Dormaa with 18, Kintampo, 16 and Atebubu, 8.

According to the Times, the most affected age group is the 20- 39 years bracket, which unfortunately is the most active of the population. The sources are reported as cautioning that the threat of HIV/AIDS should not be taken for granted because it is looming menacingly over Ghana.
