Pomadze (C/R), Jan. 8, GNA – Barimah Owusu-Kwarteng, Public Relations Officer of the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme (AESDMHIS), has suggested to Churches and other religious organisations to form special environmental sanitation brigades to ensure the success of the crusade against filth. The formation of such groups would go a long way to strengthen the Government’s plan to keep all communities especially urban areas clean for the country’s 50th Independence anniversary in March.
Barimah Owusu-Kwarteng who was interacting with Church leaders at Pomadze, near Gomoa-Asebu at the weekend said the proposed brigades should be charged with the responsibility of sensitising the people on the importance of environmental health in development.
They must also undertake periodic 93house-to-house and village-to-village evangelization on environmental cleanliness” to remind the masses on the need to maintain domestic and environmental cleanliness.
Barimah Owusu-Kwarteng said after the establishment of the brigades, religious organizations, which take the initiative, could contact their respective district, municipal and metropolitan assemblies for material and other support to ensure effective operation. He expressed optimism that the Ministry for Local Government, Rural Development and Environment, would also provide logistics to enable them to work well.
Barimah Owusu-Kwarteng suggested to the Churches and the brigades to institute the 93Neatest House and Environmental Awards” for community members who maintained their houses and surroundings to minimize the spread of preventable diseases and help make the National Health Insurance cost effective. 08 Jan 07
