Constituency members of NPP injured in accident

Koforidua, Jan. 7, GNA- Thirty-seven members of the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency of the ruling New Patriotic Party were on Sunday involved in an accident when the vehicle conveying them to a rally at Koforidua plunged into a valley while descending the Mamfe section of the Akuapem ridge. No deaths were recorded, but a number of passengers sustained injuries and were being treated at the Koforidua Regional Hospital and the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital at Mampong-Akuapem.

The constituents were travelling to Koforidua in the Eastern Region to attend a rally being organized by the ruling party to round-off its delegates conference currently underway at the EREDEC Hotel in the New Juaben Municipality.

A victim of the accident and Vice-Chairman of Agbogba Ward of the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency of the NPP, Mr. Benjamin Nyarko, confirmed this to the According to Mr. Nyarko, they had begun their journey around 0730 hours in Accra and were hoping to reach Koforidua in time for the rally that comes off later in the afternoon.

The accident, he said, was the failure of their driver to stick to his lane when he was negotiating a curve on the ridge. Mr. Nyarko said within seconds, an Opel saloon car pulled from the opposite direction and their driver, in an attempt to avoid collision with the Opel car veered off into a ravine. He denied rumours that some lives were lost, noting that though many of them received injuries, they all left the accident spot safely without any life-threatening conditions.
