Five communities honour Agona East MP

Agona Kwesitwikrom (C/R), Jan 5, GNA – Five communities in the Agona East constituency in the Central Region have commended the MP for the area, Mr John Kwesi Agyabeng, for fulfilling the promises he made during the 2004 elections campaign.

At a durbar of the Chiefs and people of Agona Nyansakyire, Kwesitwikrom, Suromanya, Bewadze and Asamoakrom at Agona Kwesitwikrom on Tuesday, they praised the MP for using 341 million cedis from his share of the common fund to purchase 155 wooden poles for the Self Help Electrification Project (SHEP 4), in the area.

The poles, which have already been erected, are yet to be connected to the national grid.

Nana Kwesi Twi IV, Chief of Kwesitwikrom, on behalf of the people expressed their appreciation to the MP for helping the communities to execute the project.

He stated that electricity in the communities would promote the establishment of small-scale industries to halt the drift of the youth to the urban centres.

Nana Twi called on the contractor to speed up work to complete the project, which would help raise the living standards of the people. Mr Albert Quainoo, Assemblyman for Fawomanye, stressed the readiness of the people to provide communal labour to ensure the early completion of the project.

He appealed to the government, the Agona District Assembly and the Ghana Water Company to extend potable water to Agona Okotokwa, the only community in the area without the facility to curb water-borne diseases. The Assemblyman advised parents to take advantage of the fee-free education and the school feeding programme to enrol their children.

Mr Agyabeng commended the Chiefs and people for their appreciation and stressed the government’s commitment to rural development.

The MP urged the people to rekindle their communal spirit for the development of the area, which he said was the key to reduce poverty and help raise their standard of living.
