Standards Board seizes unwholesome goods in Tamale

Tamale, Dec 1, GNA – The Ghana Standards Board (GSB) on Tuesday seized large quantities of canned foods and drinks declared unwholesome from 11 supermarkets and shops located in and around the main business centre in Tamale.

Mr Robert Yidana Adam, GSB Regional Supervisor who led the operation, said it was aimed at ensuring that shopkeepers complied with GSB’s labelling rules to prevent the sale of expired and uncertified goods to the public.

Mr Adam observed that importers regard the north as a dumping ground for unwholesome goods, adding that the numerous unapproved entry points make it easy for people to import all kinds of goods.

He, therefore, cautioned shop owners to be on the lookout for such goods and alert the GSB.

The GSB will liaise with the Environmental Protection Agency and the Municipal Directorate of the Ministry of Health to have the seized goods destroyed.
