Two hundred and six million cedis disbursed to 13 groups, individuals

Winneba (C/R), Dec. 31, GNA – Thirteen co-operative associations and individual entrepreneurs in the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District were provided with financial assisted totaling 206 million cedis to promote their businesses during the latter part of the outgoing year. Businesses the beneficiaries used the loans to run included, cassava processing, rearing of small ruminants, irrigation for vegetable production and bee keeping.

The District Chief Executive Mr Solomon Kwashie Abbam-Quaye, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Winneba, said most of the beneficiaries had performed very well with the funds allocated them. According to Mr Abbam-Quaye some of the beneficiary groups and individual entrepreneurs had already started paying back loans they collected. He said that early settlement of the loans would help sustain the scheme for many people to access it to improve their socio-economic status. In another development, about 250 farmers in the District were given the necessary material and financial support to crop more than 800 acres of maize during the year, the DCE added.
