Amenfi West District records high immunization coverage

Asankrangwa(W/R), Dec. 28, GNA About 55,568 children were immunized against poliomyelitis during the recent National Immunization Exercise in the Wassa Amenfi West District. Dr Emmanuel Affeikum, Wassa Amenfi West District Director of Health Services, addressing a press conference at Asankrangwa on Wednesday, said 43,059 children were vaccinated against measles during the exercise.

Dr Affeikum said 49,720 children were given Vitamin A Supplement while 17,000 children under two years were given free mosquito insecticide treated nets. He noted that this year’s exercise was successful with coverage of 95.8 per cent for poliomyelitis, 87.3 per cent for measles and 95.5 per cent for Vitamin A Supplement. Dr Affeikum commended the Wassa Amenfi West District Assembly for allocating two brand new motorbikes for the exercise. He also commended management of Swiss Lumber Company, Samartex Company Limited and Plywood Limited, the Non-Formal Education Division, Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Catholic Church for their assistance towards the exercise.
