Fire guts 90-year-old grandmother’s house

Obenimase (Ash), Dec 27, GNA – Fire last week gutted the house of a 90-year-old grandmother, Nana Abena Abumanimaa at Obenimase near Konongo in the Asante-Akim North district.

The cause of the fire on that fateful morning in the house, which had no electricity is still not known.

Properties worth over 150 million cedis and a gold dust belonging to the old lady were destroyed.

Mr. Stephen Tawiah Ofosuhene, assemblyman for the area, who briefed the GNA on the incident, said the old lady was currently putting up with her relatives.

He said other persons who were occupying the four bedroom house had their belongings including beds, suitcases, clothes, cash and other valuable items destroyed.

Mr Ofosuhene said due to the poor layout in the area and lack of accessibility, fire personnel who rushed to the scene were unable to save the situation.

He called for proper layouts in towns and villages to ensure safety, especially during emergency situations.
