Man jailed 16 years for defiling seven-year-old girl

Kumasi, Dec. 27, GNA – Matthew Brenya, 18, has been sentenced to 16 years imprisonment in hard labour by a Kumasi Circuit court for defiling a seven-year-old girl.

He pleaded guilty and prayed the court to deal leniently with him. Police Chief Inspector Comfort Kyei-Baffour told the court presided over by Mr R.M. Kogyapwah that the accused stayed in the same house with the victim and her grandmother at Ashtown a suburb of Kumasi. The prosecution said about six months ago when Brenya realised that the victim’s grandmother and other tenants had left the house, lured the victim into his room and defiled her.

She said the victim narrated the incident to her grandmother and a report was made to the police who arrested the accused and after investigation charged with the offence.

The prosecution said a medical report from the hospital indicated that the victim had been defiled.
