Petitioner wins Re-run District Assembly election

Brakwa (C/R), Dec. 20, GNA- Mr Charles Kofi Broni, a 54-year old self-employed on Tuesday, polled 486 votes to win the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District Assembly re-run election conducted by the Electoral Commission for Brakwa Ampabam Bondadekrom Electoral Area. His contestant, Mr James Agyare Duodu, polled 456 votes. During the September 26, 2006 District Assembly Election both candidates drew with 471 votes each, which resulted in misunderstanding and a call for a re-run.

Mr Broni protested against the draw and petitioned the Electoral Commission to declare him the winner for the first election over misunderstanding concerning one vote in his favour, which was rejected. In an interview Mr Broni told the Ghana News Agency that the truth has come out and promised, to co-operate with, the other three Assembly members to develop the town.
