Denu (V/R), Dec. 19, GNA – Mr Kofi Dzamesi, Volta Regional Minister, has commended members of the Ketu District Assembly for ending a deadlock in the election of a Presiding Member (PM) and charged them to work in unity and avoid partisanship.
“It is important that we understand the essence of keeping the assembly from partisan politics despite our individual affiliations and make the unity and development of the area our prime objective,” he said.
Mr Dzamesi was addressing the assembly on Monday following the election of a PM on Monday after two previous contests between Togbe Wetsigbe II, a traditional ruler and a government appointee, and Mr Cephas Yao Anagbo, an engineer and member for Adafienu electoral area. Mr Anagbo later withdrew from the contest, leaving Togbe Wetsigbe, 65, to become the sole candidate, thereby emerging the elected unopposed.
Mr Dzamesi announced that the assembly’s share of the country’s 50th anniversary fund and others were ready for utilization. Togbe Wetsigbe thanked members for the confidence reposed in him and assured them that he would run an open door policy.
