Floods destroy communities

Parts of the Yendi and Zabzugu-Tatale districts still grappling with the effects of the recent floods, have been hit by rainstorm which destroyed several buildings. At Zabzugu, about 50 houses and three classrooms of the local secondary and primary schools were damaged by the storm on Monday. An old clinic block, which was housing community health nurses and the Diseases Control Unit, was destroyed beyond repairs when four kapok trees fell on it.

An official of the Non-Formal Education Division (NFED) at Zabzugu, Mr. Habib Seidu Alhassan, in a report to the GNA did not mention any casualties but said the storm has worsened the plight of the people. At Sang near Yendi, the assembly member for the area, Mr. Ebenezer Mahama Adams said a number of buildings were damaged with Two completely destroyed.
