Minister commends leaders for ensuring peace and development

Kuntu (C/R), Dec 8, GNA – Mr Stephen Asamoah-Boateng, Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Environment, has commended Nana Kwesi Brebo III and Nana Obo Montoa II, chief and queenmother, respectively, of Kuntu near Saltpond, for ensuring peace and development among their people in the last 25 years.

Addressing a durbar to mark the 25 years of enstoolment of the two traditional leaders, Mr Asamoah-Boateng mentioned plans to extend electricity to the JSS in the town to enable classes to be organised at night for final year students.

He said the road linking the town to Anokyi on the Mankessim-Cape coast highway would be improved to facilitate evacuation of salt. The Minister expressed concern about the lack of maintenance culture in the Ghanaian society, saying the situation had led to the deterioration of many facilities.

Mr Ato Essuman, a Member of Council of State, advised the parents in the community to take education of their children seriously. He announced plans to launch an education endowment fund in memory of his late father, Mr Kwesi Abakah Essuman, an educationist and a regent of the town, to raise money for needy children’s education. On his part, Nana Brebo expressed gratitude to all those who contributed to the success of their reign and assured the people of a continued dedicated service to improve their living standard. He commended Nana Kwame Baffoe, an African-American, who had been in installed the Nkosuohene of the town and Mr Ishmael Kwesi Hagan, a Denmark-based citizen, for their valuable contributions to the development of the town.

Certificates were given to people who contributed to the development of the town.
