Fetish Priest Arrested for murdering ex-wife

Agona Mensakrom, Dec 8, GNA – The village of Agona Mensakrom was thrown into a state of mourning on Wednesday when a man butchered his 30-year-old former wife to death. The woman, Madam Salami Afisah from Akim Akroso in the Eastern Region, had gone to Mensakrom to collect the money from Yaw Agbenu, 38, a fetish priest.

Deputy Superintendent of Police B.B Bakomora, the Agona District Police Commander, told the GNA that the woman and the suspect lived together as man and wife for about one-and-half years during which they had a son but divorced two years ago.

After the divorce Madam Afisah has been periodically coming for money from the suspect at the village for the up keep of the child. “On December 2 2006, the deceased told her relatives that she was going for money from her former husband for the payment of the child’s medical bills”.

Mr Bakomora said after five days when the woman was not returning, the family sent her senior sister to check what was happening. When she got to the village she had a hint that the sister’s former husband had murdered her.

When news got to town about the murder, some of the people rushed to the house where they discovered parts of the women including the head, two legs and two hands partially buried behind his house. He said the while the angry mob were persuading the suspect to show them rest of the body, the police arrived and arrested him. The remaining parts were later found buried in a nearby bush.
