Bawku (U/E), Dec. 06, GNA – Hardly had he stepped out of the dock on a theft charge than Mbilla Karim Azumah, a 29-year-old teacher, was recalled for another theft case.
This time around, he was alleged to have conspired with two other teachers to steal a television set meant for the President’s Special Initiative for Distance Learning (PSI-DL) and a set of science textbooks from the Zebilla Junior Secondary School.
Azumah pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two years imprisonment. He was earlier given the same sentence and the two sentences will run concurrently.
His accomplices, Bernard, Aseno Asuma, 32, and Charles Asibi Nyande 31, pleaded not guilty and were granted bail in the sum of 40 million cedis each to reappear on December 13.
Inspector Andrews Yirenkyi told the court presided over by Mr. Alex Owusu Ofori that on October 10 the Headteacher of Zebilla Junior Secondary School found that the items had been stolen from his office. He said on November 13 Mbilla was arrested for stealing and when a search was conducted in his room, the police found the TV set and two science text books with the school’s stamp embossed in the books. Mbilla mentioned Aseno and Nyande, both teachers at Zebilla, as his accomplices.
He said the Headteacher was invited to the station where he identified the TV set and the textbooks as the items that were stolen from his office.
