Chief calls for a ban on semi-nude dressing in public

Asokore (E/R), Dec.4, GNA – The regent of Koforidua Asokore, Nana Kwadwo Ababio, has called for a ban on semi-nude dressing of the youth in public.

This, he explained would help in the fight against the HIV/AIDS menace in the area.

Nana Ababio made the call at a durbar to commemorate the World AIDS Day at Asokore in the New-Juaben Municipality on Monday. He regretted that, despite the various interventions and strategies that had been adopted by the Municipality in fighting the disease, the prevalence rate was still soaring.

The New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Nana Akwasi Adjei-Boateng, said, the prevalence rate in the area that kept soaring was not a good credential and therefore all avenues should be explored to fight the disease. He called on parents not to shirk their parental responsibility towards their children since negligence on the part of parents could contribute to the spread of the disease. Nana Adjei-Boateng urged all to embrace the Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) to know ones status and how best to carry on with life. He announced that the Municipal Assembly, through the Japanese Government had provided funds for free VCT for the people and urged them to check their status. 04 Dec. 2006
