Tetteh Akpah is 2006 National Best Farmer

Nkawie, (Ash), Dec. 1, GNA – A 50-year-old Mr Mohammed Tetteh Akpah of Mateheko in the Greater Accra Region, was on Friday adjudged the overall National Best Farmer for 2006.

For his prize, Mr Akpah would be provided with 300-million cedis three- bedroom house to be built at a place of his choice. The house would be fully furnished with a gas cooker and refrigerator. Mr Akpah, who has two wives and 10 children, has 344 hectares and had cropped 142 hectares out of it.

He has 150 full time workers and 600 casuals, who are working on his mango; maize; oil palm; plantain; vegetables and livestock farms. The Second National Best award went to a 44-year-old Ali Baakan Doumah, from Sisala District in the Upper West Region.

He was presented with a double cabin Nissan pick-up, while Nana Otu Bram II from Assin Odumasi in the Central Region was adjudged the Third National Best Farmer. He received a tractor.

The Best Poultry Farmer Award went to Mr Adama Musah from Dormaa Ahenkro in the Brong Ahafo Region. He had a single cabin pick-up. Mr Kwabena Donkor of Manford (Dwoma), near Apam, was adjudged the Best National Fish Farmer. He was presented with a Ford pick-up. Mr Egya Abese 38, of Elmina was crowned the Second Best Fish Farmer, while 40-year-old Emmanuel Ghartey Bortey from the Volta Region won the Third National Best Fish Farmer.

They received fishing nets and ropes; life jackets; outboard motors and television sets.

Cape Coast School for the Deaf farm in the Central Region; Aduman Secondary School farm in the Kwabre District of Ashanti and MOFA Agriculture College farm at Wenchi, Brong Ahafo Region were adjudged the best at basic, second cycle and farm-based educational institutions levels for 2006.
