Kpetoe (V/R), Nov. 30, GNA – About 198 youths have been engaged under the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) as teaching assistants to fill vacant classrooms in the Adaklu Anyigbe district.
Mr Paul Onipanuah Hukporti, Officer in-charge of the Programme in the Adaklu Anyigbe district disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Kpetoe on Thursday.
He said 122 youths were also engaged under the Youth in Agriculture Programme and 26 others for Waste and Sanitation Programme.
Mr. Hukporti said 20 tricycles have been given to the district to be used in waste collection in the Kpetoe township and that the facility would be extended to all major towns in the district next year. He said 300 acres of tomatoes was cultivated at Akpokofe and its environs, 100 acres of maize at Ziope and 100 acres of cassava by those engaged under the YAP.
Mr. Hukporti said his outfit was receiving more applications and that those to be engaged as health assistants would be interviewed in the first week of December, this year. He appealed to those employed under the programme to be dedicated to their work as the government rely on them for the success of the programme.
Mr Hukporti also appealed to beneficiary communities to handle those posted to teach in their schools as “golden eggs” as most trained teachers have deserted the classrooms for more lucrative jobs.
