Fear grips Mensakrom, Soji, following attacks by unidentified persons

Daboase (W/R), Nov. 28, GNA – Fear has gripped the residents of Mensakrom and nearby Soji farming communities in the Mpohor Wassa East District of the Western Region, following reported attacks on some inhabitants by unidentified persons.

This has disrupted economic and social activities, as the people of these predominantly farming communities are unable to walk alone to their farms and engage in other activities for fear of being attacked. Pupils and students who have to walk long distances to school have had to be accompanied by parents or grown-ups.

The first incident reportedly occurred at Mensakrom on Monday, November 20 when a man accosted Ebenezer Mensah, a student who went to work alone on a farm.

Master Mensah told the Ghana News Agency that after answering a barrage of questions from the “evil looking” man, the man pulled out a mobile phone and spoke to some people believed to be hiding in the area. He said he escaped when the man attempted to grab him and his parents later accompanied him to report the incident to the Police at Daboase.

A few days later, one Ahetor, a traditionalist was hotly pursued by a group of unidentified persons when he was returning to Soji a suburb of Daboase from a funeral at a nearby village. In both incidents Nana Obegyinah, chief of Mensakrom and his elders organised search parties and spent several hours combing the areas in an attempt to arrest the suspected criminals but this did not yield any result.

Meanwhile, Nana Kwadwo Akye II, chief of Daboase has advised the people to report any strange and suspicious looking persons found in the area to the police or the traditional authorities.
