Businessman jailed five year for stealing

Asamankese, Nov. 23, GNA – Twenty-one-year-old Isaac Okanta who described himself as a businessman has been sentenced to five years in prison for stealing two mobile phones and some household items by Asamankese Magistrate Court.

He pleaded guilty to breaking into the room of a woman and stealing the items worth 2.250 million cedis and cash of 500,000 cedis. Police Chief Inspector Joseph Idan told the court that both Alimatu Salia and Okanta lived at Bronoso, a suburb of Asamankese. On October 31, Alimatu’s sister who slept with her woke up at dawn to visit the public place of convenience and Okanta burst into the room and stole the items.

Alimatu recognized Okanta and raised an alarm after the accused had left.

Neighbours rushed to the scene, but Okanta fled and went into hiding but was traced to his hideout and arrested.
