Nii Tetteh Otu laments on indecent dressing

Wa, Nov. 21, GNA – Nii Tetteh Otu II, president of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs on Monday decried the blind copying of foreign cultures by Ghanaian youth, especially girls with regard to their mode of dressing.

Speaking at a joint Greater Accra and Northern Region day at the national festival of arts and culture in Wa, Nii Otu said indecent dressing by the youth particularly women, had become a fashion. He noted that the way one dresses tells much about the person especially with regards to character and advised the youth to dress decently as demanded by the Ghanaian culture. The Nayiri, Bohagu Abdulai Sheriga, president of the Northern Region House of Chiefs called on the organisers of the festival to decentralize it.

This, he said, would enable the districts to benefit from developments and other benefits which come by hosting the festival. In his speech, Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris, the Northern Regional Minister, bemoaned the general lack of knowledge about the north in general and stressed the need for Ghanaians to make efforts to know much about people outside their own regions. He invited Ghanaians to visit the north, pointing out that one cannot claim to be patriotic if he or she ignores other parts of the country.

He said such trips would go a long way in fostering the natural bond of unity and good relationship among Ghanaians. Various cultural groups from the two regions took turns to showcase their diverse and unique music, dance and display of artistry in playing of their musical instruments.

Also at the function was Mr Kotei Papafio, Ga west District Chief Executive who represented Sheikh I.C. Quaye, the Greater Accra Regional Minister.
