KMA organises orientation workshop for members

Kumasi, Nov 14, GNA – A two-day orientation workshop to sensitise members of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to develop a better understanding of the structure of the assembly system and concept opened in Kumasi on Monday.

The workshop that KMA organised also sought to educate members on their responsibilities and legislative provision for decentralisation and the work of the assembly.

In an address Mr Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah, the Ashanti Regional Minister, said KMA members must resolve to explain regulations and byelaws of the assembly to their electorates to enable them become responsive to their duties and responsibilities. Such a move, he said, was crucial to accelerate the socio-economic development of the metropolis whiles restoring Kumasi’s status as the Garden City of West Africa.

“It behoves assembly members to avoid negative practices and rather be committed to sensitising their electorates to be disciplined and shun the wanton disrespect for byelaws of the KMA if the assembly were to realise its objectives”, Mr Owusu-Ansah said. Madam Patricia Appiagyei, the Metropolitan Chief Executive, cautioned members against negative practices and behaviour that could be detrimental to the image of the assembly. She said members should at all times adhere to KMA’s laid-down structures and internal mechanism to address issues instead of rushing to the media.
