Community based volunteers attend malaria workshop

Akyem Oda, Nov 13, GNA – About 100 community based volunteers drawn from communities in the Birim South District last Saturday attended a day’s workshop on control of malaria at Akyem Oda. The workshop was organised by the Universal Development Association (UNIDA), a non-governmental organisation, and was aimed at updating the knowledge of the participants on the disease to enable them to support malaria programmes in communities.

Mr Patrick Marfo, the Project Officer, said Artesunate-Amodiaquine was now a replacement for chloroqine as first line treatment for malaria.

Mr Edward Agyei, a disease control officer, stressed the importance of antenatal clinics and urged the participants to monitor pregnant women in their areas to ensure that they attended antenatal regularly.
