First Lady’s visit symbolizes love -Chief

Paga (U/E), Nov. 8, GNA – A chief has said the visit of Mrs Theresa Kufuor, the First Lady and Hajia Ramatu Aliu Mahama, the Second Lady, to the three northern regions “is a symbol of unity, love and oneness which are the basic ingredients for national development.”

The Paga Pio Charles Awampaga, Paramount Chief of the Paga Traditional Area, said this when the two ladies paid a courtesy call on him at his palace in Paga on Tuesday at the start of their two-day working visit to the Upper East Region.

He urged Ghanaians to emulate the shinning example of unity and love exhibited by the two ladies and to shun tribalism, apathy and disunity that would only set the nation’s development backwards. “It is the first of it kind to happen in the history of Ghana. We have never seen the first and second ladies under any of the past regimes visiting a region together. This demonstrates how they are committed to the development of the nation”, Paga-Pio said. The Acting Navro-Pio, Arthur Balinia Adda, expressed similar sentiments when the two ladies paid a similar courtesy call on him at his palace in Navrongo.

The First Lady explained that the purpose of the visit was to fraternize with women and children, the most vulnerable in the three northern regions and to help address some of their needs if possible.
