Ahafo Ano South fails to elect a presiding member

Mankranso(Ash) Nov 4 GNA – After a successful inauguration and swearing-in of members of the Ahafo-Ano South district Assembly, the election of a presiding member ended in a stalemate compelling the Assembly to re-convene in two weeks for fresh voting.

Both Nicholas Owusu Afriyie of Hwibaa and Matthew Forgor of Mankranso, contestants for the presiding Member position could not obtain the two-third majority vote required to win the election after two rounds of voting.

Mr. Kofi Opoku-Adusei, Deputy Minister of local Government Rural Development and Environment, who presided over the inaugural and swearing-in ceremony, urged members to educate the electorate on their tax obligations to enable the assembly to pool resources to embark on development projects.

He cautioned the people against poor sanitation practices which caused epidemics and resultant deaths, whiles calling on the assembly to enact by-laws to ensure environmental cleanliness to safeguard the health of the people.
