Ho Municipal Assembly inaugurated

Ho, Oct. 30, GNA 96 Mr Mawutor Goh, Ho Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) on Monday commended women in Ho for responding to the call of increasing the number of women in the Ho Municipal Assembly. Mr Goh, who was speaking at the inauguration of the fourth Municipal assembly, observed that the number of women has increased from 14 to 20 representing 35.7 percent.

He said the significant increase demonstrated the commitment of the assembly to ensure a balanced equation between men and women in local governance.

Mr Goh expressed the hope that with this representation, the objective of increasing women participation in local governance would be realised.

He therefore called on the elected women and those appointed by government not to disappoint women. Mr Goh congratulated all the elected assembly members and urged them not to forget that the assembly work was a voluntary. In a message read for him, President John Agyekum Kufuor, cautioned the new assembly members against using their position to seek personal gains.

The message read by Mr Samuel Owusu Adjei, Deputy Minister of Health, advised the Assembly members to raise the awareness of their electorate of their responsibilities to pay their taxes and levies to help the assembly develop. Magistrate P.W. Amedior, swore the 56 assembly members into office.
