Food vendors asked to obtain health certificate

Winneba (C/R) Oct. 28 GNA-Heads of schools and members of the Schools Health committees in the Awutu-Effutu-Senya district have been urged to ensure that food vendors obtained health certificates before being allowed to sell at their schools.

Ms. Gifty Brebu, Effutu-Awutu-Senya District coordinator of the School Health Education Programme, who said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Winneba said this would avoid contraction of communicable diseases by the children.

Ms Brebu said a visit to some of the schools in the district shows that there are still some food vendors who do not have health certificate and are selling in the schools.

She said the formation of the School Health Committees in most schools in the district is yielding fruitful results, adding that these committees have been able to ensure that the schools have toilet urinal facilities.

According to her, schools have improved upon their general environmental cleanliness, while some food vendors have also gone in for the screening exercise.

Ms. Brebu, who is also the District Coordinator for Women in Technical Education (WITED) appealed to technical teachers to encourage and allow girls to operate equipment at the workshop, adding that girls should also be encouraged to take to male dominated careers.
