Ho, Oct. 20, GNA – The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) on Thursday called for networking between it and related non-governmental organisations to strengthen the campaign to protect human rights.
Mr Duke Hammond, Director of Finance and Administration at the Commission, who made the call, said the NGOs were in stronger positions to make up for the limitations confronting the Commission towards fulfilling its mandate.
He was speaking on “enhancing co-operation between CHRAJ and Human rights NGOs through networking”, at a one-day workshop organised by the Commission for its Volta region staff and representatives of human rights groups in the region.
Mr Hammond said NGOs could for instance make up for limitations confronting CHRAJ in terms of logistics, human and financial resources and easy access to information necessary for providing early warning signals on abuses and public education.
He said as human rights advocates, human rights NGOS should also focus their attention on ways in which they could support the CHRAJ in ensuring that the goals of NEPAD and the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) were achieved.
Mr Richard Quayson, Deputy Commissioner, Public Education and Accountability, said the protection of human rights was a collective responsibility.
