Accra, Oct 20, GNA – The Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG) on Friday added its voice to appeals to parties involved in the teachers strike to help to resolve the problem due to its devastating consequences on students.
A statement by the National Executive Council and signed by the National President, Godwin Tetteh Nomo said the Association had noted that the teachers’ industrial action was having devastating consequences on all basic and secondary school students. “It is to cut the suffering of pupils and students that the National Executive Council of GRASAG implores the Government to rapidly invite and dialogue with NAGRAT to ensure an immediate resolution of the problem.
“We also urge the two teacher associations to quickly resolve whatever differences they have and pursue a common objective to be able to obtain the best of conditions for the Ghanaian teacher,” it said. The Association expressed the hope that the Government would be able to resolve the problem with the urgency it deserved for pupils, students, parents, guardians and the entire nation to heave a sigh of relief.
It, however, appealed to politicians and civil society to be circumspect in expressing their comments on the teachers’ industrial action, saying: “This is to ensure that the already volatile situation is not further aggravated.”
