Osino (E/R), Sept. 16, GNA — Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, has deplored the power struggle between chiefs, unit committees and assembly members, saying “such development run counter to the spirit of the Local Government Act.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo regretted that some committee members have assumed roles that usurp the authority of chiefs, thereby defeating the aims of the unit committees. The Deputy Minister who is also the Member of Parliament for Fanteakwa, was addressing a mini-durbar held in his honour by the Mumuadu Traditional Council at Osino in the Fanteakwa district on Wednesday.

He said the Regional Co-ordinating Council had received several complaints from chiefs about the “non-compromising attitude of unit committee members on matters which should properly be in the domain of chiefs.

He called on the unit committees to respect the authority of chiefs on traditional matters. Mr Ofosu-Ampofo assured the chiefs that efforts would be made to educate assemblymen and unit committee members to appreciate the complementary roles expected them in the development of their communities.
