Escapee jailed three months

Nyinahin (Ash), Sept. 28, GNA – A magistrate’s court at Nyinahin has sentenced Anthony Kwadwo, an 18-year-old driver’s mate to three months imprisonment for escaping from lawful custody. He pleaded guilty.

Police Inspector Francis Kpaafah told the court presided over by Mr Noble Nkrumah that on August 6, this year, Anthony was being escorted by a policeman to dispose of human waste and while returning to the police station, the accused who was handcuffed, threw the pan away and took to his heels.

The prosecution said the accused was arrested two days later at Abuakwa without the handcuff.

During interrogation he mentioned one Kwaku Mathias from Kofi Nyamekrom as the person who helped to remove the handcuff but Mathias denied ever seeing the accused.

Anthony then again mentioned one Kwaku whom he said cut the handcuff but the said Kwaku could not be traced. The police have since not retrieved the handcuff, the prosecution added.
