Kumasi, Sept. 23, GNA – Authorities of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have taken a swipe at students of the university’s Katanga Hall for what they said was the increasing spate of indiscipline exhibited by the hall’s resident in recent time.
In order to ensure that the situation does not get out of hand, the authorities have threatened to close down the hall and expel all the 1,200 resident students if they do not comport themselves and abide by the university’s regulations.
Professor Kwesi Andam, Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, gave the warning at the university’s matriculation ceremony in Kumasi on Saturday. Out of the 18,166 qualified students who applied for admissions into the university, 7,972 were given the nod to pursue various academic programmes in the six colleges of the university.
Two thousand five hundred and sixty-seven out of the students admitted this year were females, representing 32.2 per cent of the total admissions this year.
Prof. Andam further cautioned international students of the university to strive to be disciplined at all times to foster good neighbourly relations between Ghana and her neighbours. He disclosed that a total of 507 students from less endowed schools across the country were this year admitted into the university, adding that plans were far advanced to increase the number in future to ensure equity in education.
The Vice-Chancellor indicated that the university’s authorities had resolved to continue to pursue programmes and initiatives that would enhance the overall infrastructure development of KNUST and therefore called on stakeholders to commit resources towards enabling the university to achieve its objectives.
