Bawku Municipal Assembly members tour Ouagadougou

Ouagadougou, Sept. 21, GNA – The Mayor of Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso, Monsieur Simon Compoare, has stressed the need for the necessary political will and closer cooperation among the lower structures of governance across borders in the sub-region to achieve total integration of the continent.

He said the time had arrived for people in the sub-region to put aside past colonial ideologies in order to pursue a new development cause that would improve the welfare of its citizens. He noted that citizens from the two sides had a common ancestral heritage and a culture, adding that the colonial barriers should no continue to hold back the progress of the continent in poverty reduction.

Monsieur Compoare made the call when a 50-member delegation from the Bawku Municipal Assembly (BMA) paid a courtesy call on him at his office in Ouagadougou as part of a two-day familiarisation tour of Burkina Faso.

The delegation, which was led by the Chief Executive, Mr. Abdul-Rahman Gumah, and included some heads of department, also paid courtesy calls on the Ambassador Shanun Mogtari and other leading members of the local government.

Mr Compoare said it is the sharing and learning from each other’s experiences that could sustain hope of integrating the continent in its totality to give the people the much needed push to play a meaningful role of meeting their aspirations.
