Ex-convict returns to serve another eight years

Odumase-Krobo (E/R), Sept. 9, GNA – An ex convict, who was recently released from prison after serving five years’ for unlawful entry and stealing is to go back to prison for eight years for committing the same offences again.

A Circuit Court at Odumase-Krobo convicted Eric Alukpor Churchill, 45, who pleaded guilty to eight years’ imprisonment on each count, to run concurrently.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector S. P. Sampana, told the court presided over by Mr E. H. Ampadu, that on August 27, at about 01:30 hours, some members of the Abanse Neighbourhood Watchdog Committee, near Agomanya, saw the accused carrying some items in a sack and holding a tape recorder. Upon interrogation, the accused claimed that the items belonged to one Madam Margaret Korle.

Not satisfied with the explanation, members of the committee accompanied the Churchill to Madam Korle, who denied ownership of the items. He said the members, therefore, handed over the accused to the Police for further investigations.

Inspector Sampana said while at the Police Station, Mr Effah Boadi of Agomanya, came and identified the items as his. He said Mr Boadi informed the Police that he left his room to attend nature’s call and when he returned he found the room ransacked.

Inspector Sampana told the court that in 1995, the accused was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for a similar offence but he filed an appealed at a Koforidua High Court and the sentence was reduced to five years, which he served and was released this year.
