Assembly invests 380 million cedis in ginger production

Barekese (Ash), Sept. 11, GNA 96 The Atwima-Nwabiagya District Assembly is to invest 380 million cedis in ginger production at Gyankobaa, to create more employment for the youth in the area. Mr Thomas Ofori-Donkor, District Chief Executive (DCE), who announced this, said the Assembly had also voted 100 million cedis to improve educational infrastructure at the Barekese Secondary School. He was speaking at the 18th annual general meeting of the Nwabiagya Rural Bank at Barekese at the weekend.

Mr Ofori-Donkor said the government last year released 500 million cedis to provide more infrastructure and other facilities at the Barekese Secondary School, which had been absorbed into the public education system this academic year.

He commended the bank for investing several millions of cedis in the development of the school and expressed the hope that other institutions and organisations would follow.

The DCE appealed to the bank to continue to encourage and support small-scale and cottage industries to increase production and to create more employment for the youth.

Mr Ofori-Donkor said the government had won the confidence and respect from the international community as a result of its prudent and efficient economic and financial policies and expressed the hope that the bank’s operations would adequately empower the rural population to be economically independent.
