Pigs devour abandoned baby

Zebilla (U/E), Sept 10, GNA – Pigs devoured an abandoned baby wrapped in a black polythene bag and dumped in a millet farm near a family house at Zebilla, near Bawku, police said.

Flies and a foul stench from the farm was the clue that led residents to scene.

This incident brings to four the number of children abandoned in the district this year.

In the first two cases the children could not survive but a 48-year-old woman luckily discovered the third victim.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the incident the police commander for Bawku West, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Henry Bacho, said one Santos Asigri informed the police about the incident. He said when the police got to the scene they found a decomposed placenta and intestines of a baby, believed to be less than a week old. Mr Bacho said the footprints of the pigs at the scene suggested that there was a struggle among the pigs in eating up the child. The said the police are investigating and placenta and intestines have been buried.
