Aluworks to get quality certification next year

Tema, Sept. 7, GNA – Aluworks Limited is to have full certification of its products by Societe Generale de Surveillance (SGS) by the beginning of next year. For the past three years, Aluworks’ 450 workers have been undergoing a series of training programmes towards the award of International Standard Organisation (ISO) 9000 certificate to be issued by a competent authority.

As part of the programme, 14 management staff of the company on Tuesday began a two-day course on Internal Quality Systems Auditing. Opening it, Squadron Leader Peter N. Lamptey (Rtd), Administrative Manager of Aluworks, said in order to qualify for certification, the company has established and documented its Quality System based on ISO 9000 requirements.

He said to prove that Aluworks is implementing the Quality System effectively, the company has to properly equip itself before inviting the certification body for external audit that would eventually issue the certificate and undertake periodic assessments.

Under the standardisation, the company is expected to maintain documented procedures for inspection and testing activities in order to verify that the specified requirements for the product are met. Sq. Ldr. Lamptey said Aluworks shall identify and plan the production, installation and serving processes which directly affect quality.

Mr Didier P. Reymond, Managing Director of SGS, Ghana Limited, said so far 15 institutions in Ghana including Wahome Steel Limited, Johnson Wax Limited and DHL Ghana have undergone the certification training programmes. SGS world-wide went into the certification business to ensure that companies come out with quality products that would conform to international standards.
