‘419’ Crooks On the Increase in Ghana

THE MINISTER of Information and National Orientation (MINO), Hon. Kwamena Bartels, has urged the public to be cautious about the activities of people now known as ‘419’.

This notice is in connection with an organization that calls itself, ‘Live and Work in South Africa (LWSA) ‘, said to be offering visas and securing jobs to Ghanaians interested in living and working in South Africa.

According to a press release from MINO dated August 24, 2006, investigations have revealed LWSA to be a fraudulent scheme that sends innocent Ghanaians to South Africa only for them to be arrested and charged with either possession of fake documents or stolen credit cards upon arrival.

The general public is therefore warned to be watchful of the dealings of the infamous LWSA group by scrutinizing all their offers carefully.

There have been several ‘419’ scams in the country including those over the Internet as well as those that operate physically to defraud people.
