Nadowli District to engage 344 youth

Nadowli (U/W), Sept 5, GNA – The Nadowli District Assembly has submitted a list of 344 young people for employment under various modules in the youth employment programme.

The applicants are made up of 208 volunteer teachers, 50 auxiliary nurses, 60 have been targeted for consideration in community protection and policing while 26 of them would be offered the opportunity to serve the district in the sanitation sector.

Wing Commander (Rtd) Eric Dakurah, the District Chief Executive, said this at the last ordinary meeting of the assembly at Nadowli on Tuesday during which the assembly was dissolved to pave way for the forthcoming district level elections.

He said 300 farming groups in the district were being sponsored under the youth employment programme and gave the assurance that there were opportunities for other modules to be taken on board the programme later.

Wing Commander Dakurah said the construction of a Rural Technology Facility (RTF) for training artisans in various trades was almost completed and machines would soon be installed for the facility to take off.

He said the Community Based Rural Development Project (CBRDP) had released 50 million cedis each to the Takpo and Issa Area councils as initial funds to execute projects approved by the CBRDP after the two communities had satisfied criteria set by the project’s working document.

Naa Abubakari Abdul-Rahman, the Presiding Member of the assembly, urged the former assembly members to continue to give their input to support the growth of the district. He appealed to chiefs, elders and both former and incoming assembly members to assist the assembly to mobilize enough revenue to supplement funds from central government to enable the district implement its programmes aimed at poverty reduction.
