OMA constructs a 120 million-cedi market for Kunka

Obuasi, Sept. 04, GNA Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA) has constructed a 120 million-cedi market comprising 40 stalls to improve trading among women at Kunka, a suburb of Obuasi. The Kunka community led by Nana Ponkoh II, Dompoase Abadiekyirehene supported the project with communal labour estimated at about 30 million cedis.

Inaugurating the project, Nana Asirifi Asare II, Presiding Member of the assembly said it was the assembly’s determination to bring development to the doorsteps of the people in the municipality. He announced that the assembly was constructing new schools and rehabilitating others to help improve educational infrastructure and education delivery, while a contract had been awarded to improve roads within Kunka.

Nana Asare advised the market women to patronise the new market to encourage the assembly to continue with the expansion of the market for the community.

He said the assembly had in addition, started work on the construction of a six classroom block with toilet, store, office and teachers’ common hall for the people in the area. Nana Asare appealed to the people to unite and support the traditional leadership to facilitate the development of the area. Mr Francis Kanbi assemblyman for the area commended the assembly for the project and appealed to the women to maintain the market to prolong its life span.

He commended the people for their communal spirit and urged them to maintain it to help speed up the development of the community. Nana Ponkoh said Kunka was fast growing but lacked some basic amenities such as electricity in some parts and place of convenience and appealed to the assembly for assistance. He noted that expansion of the market would enable the assembly generate more revenue, and urged the assembly to create an ideal environment to motivate the market women to patronize the market.
